Hitoshi Yokoyama, President,
Japanese Society for Cardiovascular Surgery
(Non-profit organization)
I greatly appreciate your interest in The Japanese Society for Cardiovascular Surgery (JSCVS).Thank you for visiting our web page. JSCVS was founded in 1972. Since then, JSCVS has been active, not simply as an academic society, but as anorganization serving the needs of our society.
Our mission embraces;
Here I am proud to introduce one of our activities for better patient care.JSCVS is helping each heart center for further improvements in the quality of surgery by our “Quality Improvement Program (QIP)”;About 10 hospitals with high volume and relatively high observed/expected operative mortality rateare selected every yearwith an aid of the Japan Cardiovascular Surgery Database (JSCVS). Councilors of JSCVS visited those hospitals and conducted a mortality conference with their doctors to share the recommendation for improvement of outcomes. Since 2015, our QIP is reducing the ratio of observed/expected operative mortality in each hospital.
On the other hand, JSCVS has established international memberships through the Asian Society for Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery (ASCVTS). ASCVTS involves the international leadership together with the European Association For Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (EACTS), the American Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS), and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS).
In our country, JSCVS has collaborated with the Japanese Association for Thoracic Surgery (JATS) and the Japanese Society for Vascular Surgery (JSVS) in organizing the Japanese Board of Cardiovascular Surgery (JBCVS) since 2002. JSCVS has been playing a major role in the training and education of young surgeons aspiring to become professional cardiovascular surgeons. The board has invited the representative of under-40 young members to the Council of JSCVS to cooperate their opinions to our actions.In 2018, 4290 members are participating JSCVS. I would greatly appreciated if you collaborate to our activities with understanding of our mission.
